Killed in action in the crash of "RAIDR 04", Marine KC-130R BuNo QB 160021, while serving with VMGR-352, MAG-11, 3rd MAW, MCAS Miramar, CA. His crew was returning from a mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Scott was also a former Deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and received the Purple Heart after the 1983 bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon.

Scott is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
