General Information:

The 2019 Marine Corps Air Transport Association Reunion and Convention will be held in San Diego, CA October 3-6 at the Handlery Hotel at 950 Hotel Circle in San Diego. The hotel is on Highway 8 just west of the Highway 5 interchange in Mission Valley. The hotel is older, but recently renovated. All rooms are on the first or second floors but there are no elevators, so those with mobility issues will want to specify a first floor room. We would also recommend you not get a room adjacent to the pool due to the noise. There are very limited disability rooms so it's advisable to reserve early.

Early Bird Check in will be available Wednesday October 2 in the hospitality room. There you will find an open bar and snack food and plenty of Marine Corps camaraderie. That room will generally be open all day for your enjoyment. San Diego has much to enjoy and the weather in October will likely be ideal with temperatures around 62 degrees in the morning and 76 degrees in the afternoon. If you're planning to come to the reunion you might want to extend a few days to enjoy other sights and events too.

We have some regularly scheduled events at the reunion as well.

Oct 2- Wednesday evening the Early Birds typically find a place to eat as a group.

Oct 3-On Thursday we will have our Welcome Aboard "Champagne" Luncheon from 1300-1430 in the hotel to start the festivities. Cost is $40 per person. After that everyone is free to hang out in the hospitality room or explore San Diego on their own. The menu for this event is listed on the registration form.

Oct 4-On Friday we have an optional event to go to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot to view the weekly recruit graduation ceremony. If we have enough interest we'll arrange transportation and formalize that. If not, individuals can still go on their own. We will also visit MCAS Miramar to tour VMGR-352 hangars and newer KC-130 aircraft. There even may be an opportunity to visit the KC-130 simulator. We will provide bus transportation for this event.

Oct 5- We will have our Board of Directors Meeting from 0900 to 0945 followed by our General Membership Meeting from 1000-1100.  The rest of that day is free until 1700 when we will start our Happy Hour in the Banquet Room followed by our Banquet. Dress for the banquet is business (suit and tie for men and cocktail dresses or slacks for women). Some may come formal and others more informal. There is no dress code really and all are welcome. Cost for the banquet and Happy Hour is $65. The banquet is a "sit down dinner" affair with USMC Color Guard Ceremony, guest speaker and raffle drawing. The menu for the Banquet is listed on the registration form. After the Banquet the hospitality room will open until midnight.

Oct 6- is fly/drive away day unless you are extending your stay.

There are only 60 rooms blocked at the special rate of $139 plus tax per night. This rate includes breakfast fro two each day and free parking for normal sized vehicles. Ask the hotel for rates for oversized vehicles and RVs. The room block ends Sept 11 so it's important to make reservations early.  (Note: All block rooms may be gone before Sept 11. As of mid June there were 27 rooms already booked.)

To register call the hotel at 800-676-6567. The hotel website is sd.handlery.com

This is a "members only" event, but everyone who is or hazs ever been in a VMGR or VMR squadron or supporting activity is invited to join us.  Cost is $35 per year with $10 of that going to our Scholarship Fund for regular membership.  You may join or renew and pay by credit card at here: www.mcata.com/join-us .
